It was a fine opportunity to get a good photo of Blanche. According to the traveller's guide, which you can buy on the train or in Porthmadog station and which has very complete history and statistics, Blanche was built in 1893 by Hunslet Engine Co., Leeds. LInda is her sister engine. The wheel arrangement is 2-4-0STT, cylinder diameters are (2) 10 1/2" X 12", the driving wheel diameter 2' 2" and the boiler pressure 160 lbs./sq. in. She is ex Penrhyn Quarry Railway Main Line class, bought in 1963. New boiler in 1965, new tender with half-cab 1965. She was rebuilt in 1972 with new piston-valve cylinders, oil burning and superheating. And she draws quite a surprising load up quite a grade!
