Three trains were running too and fro - one digging drain trenches, one laying the concrete troughing in the South Cess and a further train providing stone for backfilling and slate waste as support support for the cutting bottom.

Work was done on the west parapet where the gang removed almost all the coping slate pieces, rebuilt the wall below where needed and replaced the coping stones on a fresh bed of lime mortar.

The coping stones were extremely heavy being 2.5" to 3" thick, 22" to 24" wide and up to 50" long – ie from 400lbs to 500lbs weight.
