In the course of researching 15” gauge lines, I have followed up the possibility that a photograph might exist of Queen Victoria’s visit to Ardkinglass in early October 1875. Regrettably, the extremely helpful Curator of Photographs at the Royal Collection has been unable to trace any reference at this early date.
Could I appeal to any member of NGH who has any information on the Ardkinglass Line to contact me (directly or through ‘Miniature Railway World Forums’), and appeal to the Webmaster to PLEASE repair the damaged syntax link to Jean Maskell’s article, which I would dearly like to read? I believe the Ardkinglass line was probably the third miniature railway to be built – following Captain Rodney’s line at New Alresford about 1845 and Charles Fildes’s line at Far Sawrey in the 1860s Just possibly, Peter Brotherhood might also have had a short line at Chippenham for PEARL around 1860.
