The loco in question is Motor Rail 2197.
McAlpine eventually sold the loco to Cleveland Bridge & Engineering; it may have returned to MR for reconditioning between the two.
In December 1965, the loco was sold into preservation at the Cadeby Light Railway in Leicestershire.
