Welsh Highland stock report

Easter 2004 saw work begin on Hunslet diesel Kathy, one of two purchased from Hunslet Barclay and originally used on the Jubilee Line extension, for use as a passenger loco to replace the line’s existing aging passenger diesel Glaslyn. The loco will initially be outshopped in ‘tunnelling white’ with a basic cab. Future plans include a ‘heritage’ outline body similar to the Kerr Stuart diesel which ran on the line in the 1920s.
Refurbishment of one of the 350hp LyD2 diesel locos has started with the intention to use it more often on service trains. The engine pre-heater will be replaced with an electric heater unit and battery charger to allow easier starting (at present the diesel heater takes a couple of hours to warm the loco while draining the batteries at the same time).
Hudson toastrack coach 42 should be ready for service early this summer. Final painting is being done and there only remains work to install brake equipment and linkages before it can be added to the already-restored Gladstone coach.
