Diana

Kerr Stuart 0-4-0T "Diana" at Gilfach Ddu in June 1972. Built for stock by Kerr Stuart (works number 1158) as one of a batch of six "Sirdar" class locos in 1909 it did not find a buyer until 1917 when it went to the Kerry Tramway in Montgomeryshire. When the line closed in 1925 the loco was acquired by the Oakley slate quarry at Blaenau Ffestiniog. In 1945 it moved on to the Pen-yr-Orsedd quarry at Nantlle, staying there until the boiler was condemned in 1950. It stayed at Pen-yr-Orsedd until acquired for preservation after the quarry closed. After a spell in store at Gilfach Ddu it moved to the Brecon Mountain Railway but has since been resold and is now privately owned. I guess this must be the engine of which Dan Crow has a photo at Alan Keef's works in 1999.
