Alt Nagelburg is the junction north of Gmund where the lines to Litschau and Heidenreichstein diverge. The afternoon train from Gmund divided here with through coaches for both lines. The two lines run parallel for about half a mile after leaving Alt Nagelburg and as the two trains set off simultaneously a race inevitably ensued which became well known amongst enthusiasts in the 1970's. Unfortunately the trains came straight out of the early afternoon sun which made photography difficult especially in mid-summer when the sun is high in the sky. Here 298.207 gets ready to leave with the Litschau train alongside 399.05 on the Heidenreichstein train in August 1971.
