This is the slate quarry at Aberllefenni, at the northern end of the old Corris Railway. The quarry outlasted the line (which closed in 1948) and it still operational in 2003, and still uses a 2'3" locomotive-operated railway underground. This view from the late 1970's/early 1980's is looking down on the main level of the quarry. The water-balance incline in the background is disused but the length of track exiting the mine adit, bottom right, is still very much in use.
