The "between seasons slack time" has traditionally been used to upgrade and renew track. Cost cutting by the foreign owned mills in far north Queensland has resulted in far less track maintenance being preformed. Profits come first! Consequently, the start of the 2005 crushing season has seen a huge number of derailments occurring, some are more spectacular than others. This one occurred at about 1530 on Sunday 3rd July, a week or two into the season. Up to 10 derailments are occurring DAILY!!!
